I spoke with Aileen on the phone and she said that she has made some contacts who may know of seniors who would enjoy a visit. She expressed that her contacts would want more information about my family before suggesting a visit to a friend. In response to this, I have written up a one page description of my family and will bring some copies to the next meeting for Aileen. Maybe when they read how rooted we are in our community, they will feel more comfortable with the idea of welcoming us into their home.

I went to the meeting last night and saw some familiar faces and some new faces but hopefully after the summer months are over more people will attend the monthly meetings.
I believe that at the September meeting there should be selection/election of officers to lead the group.

Doctors tell their senior patients to walk daily. Some seniors are frightened by children on bicycles riding on the sidewalks--coming up behind-them and startling them -since they do not walk in a straight line. One senior asked if Rotary could help by suggesting bells be placed on bike handlebars so children and adults can ring the bell--as an alert system to the unsuspecting senior. They are not critical of bikes on sidewalks. They would like to be aware of the approaching bike behind them. (I wondered if the Dollar Store could sell bike bells for $1.00. Or, if Rotary could sponsor the purchase of bike bells as a starter awareness program to aid seniors.) Comments are welcome. Jackie
Housebound seniors, especially during the winter or when confined to home for medical reasons, asked if a plan could be arranged with local libraries to have library books delivered to them at home --and possibly DVD movies. (I believe WCPL is doing this. They could be helpful by sharing their plan with Rotary.) Jackie

Hi Rosanne, Thought I'd mention that Aileen is not "on-line" at this time. I'm working on getting her comfortable with the concept.
However, I've spoken to her a few times on the phone and she is working hard on identifying seniors and the types of interests they may have. As far as the concert goes, if we find enough volunteers, we will probably put a press release in the Progress asking seniors who need transportation to call (Me or Aileen).
If you want to talk to Aileen, call me and I'll give your her phone number.
